Nova Scotia Demand Express Entry Program is to make up for the shortage of skilled workers in the Nova Scotia province of Canada. NSPNP nominates candidates who have good academic qualifications, fair experience and language proficiency in either of Canada’s official languages.

It not only requires the selected candidates to work in Nova Scotia but also requires them to reside and permanently settle in Nova Scotia.

Categories of application for NSPNP:

Nova Scotia reserves the right to select the candidates it wants to nominate for the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program. NSPNP prefers certain occupations and skillset over the others and these preferences keep changing with the change in the Nova Scotia’s labour market requirements. Only online applications are accepted for NSPNP Program.

There are 2 categories of application for NSPNP:

Category 1 – This category is for candidates who have a full-time job offer from a Nova Scotia employer.

Category 2 – This category is for candidates who have at least 1-year work experience in an occupation that has a current demand in the Nova Scotia labour market. The work experience should be in the last 10 years and Nova Scotia gives preference to candidates whose experience is in the Nova Scotia province itself.


Nova Scotia PNP Program Eligibility Criteria:

There is a different eligibility criterion for each category:

To be eligible for Category 1, the candidate must:

  • Possess an online Express Entry Profile that is registered with IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada)
  • Be able to score a minimum of 67 points based on the 6-factor selection parameters
  • Have a valid job offer letter from a Nova Scotia employer. This job offer must be for full-time skilled employment for a duration of at least 12 months after the candidate is issued the Canadian PR.
  • Possess minimum 1-year of skilled job experience in the occupation that the candidate has applied for
  • Possess an ECA or a Canadian high school degree
  • Be able to prove language proficiency in English or French with a Canadian Language Benchmark score of 7
  • Be able to demonstrate sufficient financial resources to successfully settle in the Nova Scotia Canadian province

To be eligible for Category 2, the candidate must:

  • Be in either of the target occupations as mentioned in the Nova Scotia Demand Express Entry list
  • Possess an online Express Entry Profile that is registered with IRCC
  • Be able to score at least 67 points in total for the six selection parameters
  • Possess at least 12 months of skilled job experience in either of the target occupations
  • Possess an ECA or a Canadian high school degree
  • Be able to showcase language proficiency in one of the Canadian official languages – English or French with CLB score of 7
  • Be able to demonstrate sufficient financial resources to successfully relocate to Nova Scotia


Nova Scotia PNP Points Calculator in 2023:

The applicant must be able to score a minimum of 67 marks out of 100 in total for the six factors mentioned below:

  1. Education – The applicants who possess a Ph.D. or a doctoral degree get 25 points for their educational qualifications while candidates with a secondary school certificate get mere 5 points. Thus, more points are awarded for higher academic excellence.
  2. Language Proficiency – The candidates with a CLB score of 7 or more in all four sections (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) of their first official language and with a spouse or common-law partner who has a minimum CLB score of 4.5 in all 4 sections get 24 points. The candidates can also gain additional 4 points by having a CLB score of 5 or more in all 4 sections of the second official language as well.
  3. Work Experience – Candidates require minimum work experience of 1 year and get 9 points for the same. Candidates with 6 or more years of professional and paid work experience get 15 points for this factor.
  4. Age – Candidates who are between 18 to 35 years of age get 12 points and those over 47 years get no point for the age factor.
  5. Arranged Employment – Candidates who have a valid Canadian work permit can earn up to 10 additional points for this factor.
  6. Adaptability – Any candidate who has a previous work experience of minimum 1 year in skill type from NOC 0, A or B gets 10 points for the adaptability selection factor.
